The Spirit of Rose: Love, Grief, and the Sacral Chakra

The Spirit of Rose: Love, Grief, and the Sacral Chakra

If you view plants as whole spirit beings-which they are- then you will have an easier time understanding them as spiritual medicines. You’ll also have an easier time using them in your personal practice and knowing which ones to pair together for physical remedies or spellwork.

In terms of beauty, love, sensuality and softness- these are often some of the easiest to spot out. Flowers like Rose, Hibiscus, and Red Clover broadcast their connection to Venus through their red color, beauty and vibrancy. The scent of roses are long associated with sensuality and romance. While this seems like an obvious association, it gives you a look at how the personality of a plant can teach its healing virtue.

Take a look at the type of red that is characteristic in a rose. Rose is melodramatic, moody, deep. The scent is overpowering when dealing with high quality, fresh rose buds. This teaches something about rose’s emotional profile- it wants to be felt. Therefore, Rose deals with heavy, strong, dramatic feelings. This explains its use in not only love work but grief. Rose is not afraid of depth.

Rose is also soft to the touch. Velvety, even. Here is another thing to be learned- rose softens. Once again, the dichotomy of usage for both love and grief. Nothing is only one thing, everything has polarity.

When you smell rose, you melt. You say “ahhh.” It gives you that physical feeling of satisfaction. This physical action shows its association with sensuality, and the sacral chakra. This can be as simple as setting the mood for a romantic evening or spell, or it can be as deep as healing sexual trauma when paired with other herbs such as Catnip.

Another lesson to be had here is how we store grief in the sacral chakra. Grief keeps us from taking pleasure in life. Grief says- this will be taken. Rose can soften those walls and invite pleasure back into your life.

From rose we learn the range of emotion within a plant, the duality that a Spirit can carry, and how observation can inform you on plant medicines.

Much love, Queen of Hearts ❤️♠️
